Snow sculptures at Jingyuetan in Changchun, Jilin province, an experiential snow sculpture park and the venue for an international skiing festival called Vasaloppet, have been taking shape.
During the sculpting process, the proper materials and skillful sculptors are needed. But how on earth is a snow sculpture made?
Snow is obviously an indispensable material for creating snow sculptures.
Xi Wenyu, a staffer at the publicity department of Jingyuetan, said snow for sculptures and ski resorts is artificial, which features high water content and is easy to shape, unlike natural snow that can come in many different variations.
A snowmaker plays a significant role in making snow. It constantly creates plenty of snow for sculpturing.
"Water flows into the machine via tubes and is sprayed at high speed into the sky, forming water mist which will crystallize due to the low temperature and become artificial snow," Xi explained.
