Long-span Roof Trusses

A truss roof is essentially a triangulated system of straight interconnected structural elements. The most common use of trusses is in buildings, where support to roofs, the floors, and internal loadings such as services and suspended ceilings, is readily provided. Trusses are commonly used in a range of buildings including airport terminals, aircraft hangars, sports stadium roofs, auditoriums, and other leisure buildings. Trusses are also used to provide large column-free spaces in commercial buildings.

Classification of pipe trusses roof: According to different force characteristics and member arrangements, it can be divided into plane pipe truss structures and space pipe truss structures. The upper chord, lower chord, and web member of the planar pipe truss structure are all in the same plane, and the rigidity of the structure outside the plane is poor. Generally, lateral support is required to ensure the lateral stability of the structure.
The space tube truss structure is usually a triangular section. Compared with the flat tube truss structure, it can have a larger span, and the triangular truss has good stability, high torsional rigidity, and a beautiful appearance. Triangular trusses can provide a larger span space where no or no out-of-plane supports are arranged. A set of triangular trusses is similar to a space rigid frame structure and is more economical. Lateral support members can be reduced, improving lateral stability and torsional stiffness. For small-span structures, lateral supports may not be arranged.

The main reasons for using trusses are:
To span large distances;
To provide a lightweight solution;
To control deflection;
To support heavy loads;

Trusses may be exposed within the structure and be fabricated from hollow sections for aesthetic appeal. Large loads may require the use of open sections (UKC, typically) or sections built up from the plate. In all cases, the additional fabrication costs make trusses more expensive than conventional beam and column structures.
