Advantages of steel structure
Steel structures, known for their suitability for high-rise buildings and long-span space structures, have been widely adopted in landmark buildings and large venues in recent years. Due to the good processability of steel, it is most suitable for professional mass production and on-site assembly, which can greatly improve the production progress and component quality, shorten the construction cycle of the site, and is known as a natural prefabricated structure and natural green building materials, which meets the needs of sustainable development.

Light weight and high strength
Under the same load and span conditions, the self-weight of the steel structure is only 1/3 to 1/4 of the concrete structure (cold-formed thin-wall steel structure can even reach 1/10). For high-rise buildings, light weight on the one hand means the reduction of basic cost (domestic demonstration project statistics show that the reduction of basic cost is 10% to 20%); On the other hand, it means that the representative value of gravity load under earthquake action is reduced and the seismic performance is superior.
The small “light” of the component also means the reduction of the geometric size of the component, which can bring about the release of the design space. In particular, the reduction of the vertical component area will increase the actual use area of the building and indirectly improve the housing rate.

Convenient construction
The fabricated steel structure building can save 40%~50% of the construction cycle compared with the traditional building. The industrialization of the prefabricated main structure production has got rid of the restrictions of climate conditions, completely solved the problem of the traditional construction method affected by climate, and realized the assembly line building house. Collaborative design and integration technology, standardized components and modular design, BIM technology application and EPC general contract management mode, assembly line “intelligent manufacturing” and assembly construction, greatly reduce the design, production and construction cycle, and bring about the improvement of operation, maintenance, renewal and transformation efficiency.
Factory production has greatly improved the accuracy of building components, and intelligent manufacturing and information management have also greatly improved the quality level of the main structure. The quality and accuracy of building products completed under controllable production factors and perfect quality control system are slightly better than that of traditional construction methods.

Flexible layout
The biggest advantage of good steel structure is that the space layout is flexible and can be divided at will according to needs. It provides the possibility for diversified and personalized housing needs.

The steel structure itself is light in weight, under the action of earthquake, and the natural vibration period of steel structure buildings is relatively long, and the earthquake impact coefficient is relatively small, which is more conducive to earthquake disaster reduction from the point of view of earthquake design. The good ductility and toughness of the steel itself make it have better deformation and energy dissipation capacity, even under great deformation, it will not collapse, and it can ensure the seismic safety of the structure.

Reduce pollution
The prefabricated steel structure site workload is less, less wet operation, water saving (25.8% than the PC structure), energy saving (energy consumption per unit building area is reduced by 14.6%), material saving (material utilization rate can reach 70%~80%), while also reducing the construction site dust pollution and noise pollution. Thanks to the characteristics of steel recycling, the direct recycling and recycling rate of prefabricated steel structure buildings is more than 90%, and the on-site construction waste is less, which meets the green building standards of “four sections and one environmental protection.”

As far as the prefabricated building itself is concerned, according to the current material and labor prices, under the same assembly rate, the steel structure is still an absolute advantage in cost than the PC structure. If the calculation method of GB/T51129-2017 “prefabricated building Evaluation Standards” is implemented, in order to achieve the goal of prefabricated buildings accounting for 30% of the new construction area, steel structure must be the only choice.

With the improvement of standardized parts, the implementation of modular design, the promotion of modular housing, the matching of functional units, and the development of intelligent manufacturing, the marginal cost of assembled steel structures will also decrease.
